Following a discussion with Skylark, the Music Geeks Club is open for business!

Do you get so into your theory you blink like a rabbit in the headlights when someone suggests you actually play your instrument?

Do you get so caught up in playing scales that you forget to do any actual pieces?

Do you obsessively look up (and note down) any bit of terminology, notation or technics that you don't recognise?

If the answer to any of the above is 'yes', then we've established a couple of very important things:

i) You're a sad git

ii) This is the club for you!

Yes Yes Yes biggrin.gif

Do I deserve some Geek stickers please for starting the I Love Theory Club, the I Love Scales Club and the "Test Yourself - Theory Terms" thread. Oh and I started the petition to have a separate Theory forum - that must be worth a Geek gold star surely biggrin.gif

Have you started the Teacher's Pet club yet tongue.gif

Me, me , me, yes, yes, yes, yes laugh.gif party1.gif

Does this make me a life member?

I also know every minute millimetre of my bow/violin and all it's fittings. I know all the instruments accessories and bows on the market, researched cases for weeks, can quote the Strad magazine verbatim and read old copies just for fun, I'd rather read a score than a novel, and I agonise over every minute noise, bump and echo for every note I play.... *pauses for breath*.. I even go into a little trance everytime I see a violin-shaped object anywhere in the world...

But yes, I do have OCD laugh.gif (p.s. I'm not laughing at anyone who has OCD; I genuinely do have it blush.gif laugh.gif )

Me too! I'm not genuinely happy with anything until I know why it works/doesn't work, HOW it works/doesn't work etc etc

So yes, life membership for both of us!

Count me in, I'm forever being told I'm a geek for...
using the right terms obsessively, having (i.e. I can't not!) to look things up that I don't know/not sure on, obsessing over harmony exercises (give me a few chorales to complete and I'm yours for life!!), wanting to discuss repertoire ideas (haha, I really am sounding quite sad), having a list of instruments that I want to get to at least grade 6 on, for reading books about composers and their music regularly just for funsies, and actually looking forward (with a passion) to history/analysis modules when I get to uni...
Ok, so maybe I am a bit of a music geek...who cares, I love it biggrin.gif

Yay, more geeks!

I just spent a whole lesson on scales (and my first run through a simplified Bach minuet) and I think my teacher's still recovering.

"You know...it's not often I get students wanting to spend lessons on scales..."

*revels in geekdom*

I got Auralia as part of my birthday present...I'm obsessed now! I've spent hours and hours in the last few weeks working on all the different bits, and, I'm actually starting to see an improvement!!!!! (My aural skills are appalling and despite always wanting to do something about it I've never found the time/resources/confidence to ask) Now I can be heard attempting to sing intervals and recognise chord progressions at all hours from the safety of my room haha!
