I have just entered a student for the 1st time into an LCM exam. She will be taking Grade 1 Theatre singing as it suited her a little more than the usual AB exams.

Does anybody have any experience with these exams? What might I expect in terms of marking and the like?

Thanks

Thanks David, thats really helpful! Certainly the bit about props. I read through the syllabus (which incidently, I think could be a bit more reader friendly!) and I wasn't planning on doing a lot with props but i'll certainly pay more attention to it now.

I'm quite nervous about students trying different boards now i've gotten used to AB. I really wanted to be able to take one myself first to get an idea of what they're like but we've already had to delay her doing an exam several times due to missing a lot of lessons. Hopefully she's got her act together now!

Many thanks for your comments!

I have also had a number of pupils take the exams at various levels. All have done really well, in the last exam session one girl doing her grade 4 got 93%! I have used props and bits of costume like a shawl or something such, but never had any pupil use full costume and it has never been commented on in any of the mark sheets. I guess it just depends upon the examiner you get. All of my pupils have said the discussion is very imformal and friendly. Good luck!
