I have a grade 4 piano pupil who has a very small span, but wants to learn to play a couple of the songs from Phantom of the Opera. I have a copy of the music but it has very large chords. Am I allowed to adapt the music for her or will this infringe copyright?

As long as you don't sell it I think it should be fine. I arrange music for my pupils all the time.
