Is anyone else having problems with this? I seem to be going round in circles with mine. I have my user ID and my password and each time I try to log in it fails. I have been talking to the helpdesk many times and they keep sending me new passwords etc and still nothing will let me log in. Oh poor you! I think my hubby had some slight teething problems with it, but it's OK now and he's used it no probs at least twice. I know that's not really comforting beyond the fact that it does work at some point! rolleyes.gif

Funny thing was, after he submitted the first time and even paid the bill on-line, some uninformed and overzealous HMRC rep 'phoned him on a Sunday to remind him to complete his return before due date (which was two months away!) He'd already both submitted and paid up!!! ohmy.gif rolleyes.gif wacko.gif

I am becoming good friends with a lady on the help desk! I may go back to the old system next time.

Perhaps you can get some business from her, Petra!! laugh.gif

I had this problem for a while, then realised I was being a numpty and getting the PIN and the password muddled up, the password is the one you chose yourself when originally registering then you need the PIN that they send you to verify your registration. This may not be it, but it was certainly what I was doing wrong.

This is probably stating the obvious, but have you been through the activation process?

I had the same problem. At one point it told me it didn't recognise my postcode and National Insurance number, both of which I am certain are correct.

It is the worst website I have ever used. So many passwords, validation for this or that. They say 'tax doesn't have to be taxing' true but their ####### webbie is!! argh.gif

Hear, hear!

Don't get me started on this one! I still haven't managed to enter my details successfully. Suffice to say, if they try to extract the £100 fine out of me for late payment, I'll only surrender it after a struggle.

Yes there are lots of number and letters in this process, so are you sure you are putting in the right userid and password? Of course you are!!!!

OK, take a deep breath....and try again

The userid is the 12 digit number that came from government gateway (that threw me at first, that is wasn't one of the Inland Revenue numbers). The password has 12 alphanumeric characters, the first 6 are those quoted over the phone, the next 6 are sent by email. Everytime you request a new password you get two new sets of 6 alphanumerics.

I submitted mine a couple of weeks ago. It took several goes, but all the mistakes were due to my own misunderstanding of the complex login process.

No because it won't let me! That's the problem. I have entered everything many times got codes and pins and passwords, been through it with the help desk lady at the end of the phone and it keeps telling me that I don't have permission to view the site or that the info is wrong. They are going to send me yet another set of passwords and numbers and pins and goodness knows what else and told me that if I explain the situation I won't have to pay the £100 fine for being late. I spent well over an hour this afternoon putting in numbers and things with the help of a very nice and calm lady and it failed yet again. Their system hates me!

Have you got this sorted? What is the error...

Could it be cookies from the initial attempts or firewall?

I had initial teething problems last year but nothing now. Hope it gets sorted soon.
petrat
Yes, sorted at long last, last evening after more time with their help desk!!!!!

It was their error I think. For some reason they kept supplying me with activation codes instead of a password. I was using my original password thinking that was correct. I had two new activation codes in the post on the same day and when I phoned them was told not to use either but to ask for a fresh one in case it locked me out of the system again.

But I got there in the end after several phone calls and some tears of frustration.

Glad you have got the registration sorted, Petrat. Now your troubles really begin! wacko.gif I have been using the online registration for the last four years, and it's knowing what to put in which box that really befuddles me. The first year was really hard to input, the second and third years were better because I kept the printout from the previous year and worked from that with the new year's figures. Then, this year they Changed The Forms ohmy.gif and I had to start all over again. My daughter is my accountant (qualified) and I provide her with the information and she works out what I ought to pay (these services are exchanged for piano lessons - I think I have the best side of the deal!). I fill the form in and if it comes to roughly the right amount I submit it to the IR. This year we had to sit together at the computer for a couple of hours while we got everything in the right place. There is one particularly stupid box which you probably won't have to fill in. It concerns you if you have more than one pension coming in - you have to list the amount of all pensions and state the providers in an alpha numeric box (the only alpha numeric box in the whole return)in (I think) about 100 characters. It took some ingenuity to do this as I have three small ones to account for - I merged two of them to get it in. There were plenty of other niggles, too and I was very glad when it eventually looked about right.

Good luck!

I've just got my userid and password sorted because last year's password didn't work. I think I need a break already. mornincoffee.gif

Just phone your MP.

Provided you can say that they're using your house as their main accommodation, you'll get all your tax back and use of their indoor swimming pool every weekend!

I have worked out mine and the bill is huge!!! We have quite a few new levies here, which are added about €1500 to my overall bill. The most frustrating thing is the realisation that the music school I work for didn't pay me this month, my church seem to have trouble understanding why I need to be paid monthly and my students owe me nearly €2000 (which should be paid this week). The whole thing makes me feel ill!!!

Dear Santa, can I have an accountant please? blink.gif
