does anybody know of a CD computer "game" where it plays you different chords in different inversions and you have to say what they are and the game tells you if you've got it right?

I have tried a bit to train my ear on the piano, but I kind of know eg when its a major triad because its me playing it!

Any alternatives to the above suggestion would also be gratefully received,

You could try this free software which includes chords with inversions. I found it quite useful: http://www.good-ear.com/servlet/EarTrainer

I find the ear trainers on here very helpful:

Hey Fred and Jen,

They are exactly what I was looking for!

This internet lark is astounding. It's really touching these people have put their stuff out there for free just to share their love of music.

Thanks a million.

The only slight thing missing from both sites is a test of which inversion of a particular chord it is, but everything else I could think of was covered.

I've just done a google search using the keywords "ear trainer" and come up with something called "earmaster pro" which has a free 21 day trial. It's even better than the freebies. In fact it's fantastic. The only thing is they don't tell you up front how much it costs which I suspect means they want to get you hooked and then sting you big style. Oh well, so far so good!
