My favourite bike is no more sad.gif We both ended up underneath a car on the journey home this evening...I'll be alright but my bike didn't make it. We've been through a lot together, I've had that bike for five years now. We travelled all over Europe, competed in races and marathons (and won), reluctantly crawled into work every day, gone cruising in the sun... sad.gif Thankfully the policeman was very helpful and took the remains home for me, so tomorrow I'll do an "autotopsy", so if there are any reusable parts, maybe part of her can live on as a different bike? Sad day for me sad.gif

Lays down some lillies. I'm sorry about your bike.
I'm glad you're ok though, just think how much worse it could've been!

Sorry to hear about the bike. But very relieved that you are not damaged.
Andantino
Oh thats very sad. But at least your ok, though..
maggiemay
Sounds as though you had a lucky escape. Matt. But sorry to hear about your bike.

Take care - you may feel sore tomorrow!
SueHM
Have a large glass of something fortifying!

Hope you can salvage something from the wreckage.. sad.gif
jacobpianofluteorgan
Thats awful! I hope you can save as much of the bike as you can.
What happened then? are you ok?
I've been hit by car, but it was parked on the side of a road, and i walked into it because i turned around, so i guess that doesn't really count smile.gif (i knocked off it's wing mirror though! it was an old car, and it was held on by tape!), I think i hit the car, not the other way around!

Sorry to hear this, Matt, but better the bike than you! So pleased you're OK. I'm sure you'll enjoy choosing a new bike to have new adventures with. smile.gif
Stephie
Ouch blink.gif Definitely better the bike than you buddy. Hope you're ok? Best be sticking to the uni in the meantime, although do try and avoid advancing cars as much as possible. wink.gif

Thanks everyone smile.gif I guess I was very lucky, it could've been much worse. I popped to casualty early and the diagnosis was dislocated shoulder and ankle (now "popped" back into place) and hairline fractures to my left wrist and a rib. Apparently I'm supposed to "take it easy" for a week or two...but I need to be training for a charity endurance marathon, the opening set of our local windsurfing races, and the British Unicycle Championships in April! wacko.gif "Take it easy"?!?!?! blink.gif

Hasten slowly, Matt, and give yourself time to heal properly. smile.gif
Maizie
Awww, Matt, so sorry about the bike. And yourself, of course.

Now, be honest, was the first thing you said after the hit "How's my bike?" biggrin.gif
Crotchetymum
Sorry to hear about the bike, Matt, but glad you're still in one piece. Hope you heal well (but I'd give the unicycling a miss until you're completely better smile.gif)

Really it should've been, but I think it was actually "owww!" followed closely by "oh *$%^, a bus!", as one whizzed past me with inches to spare! tongue.gif A major concern was also whether the tub of Waitrose potato salad in my panniers had survived the impact (it had!)! laugh.gif
maggiemay
Well, I'm glad for the potato salad at least ...
biggrin.gif
How are you feeling today Matt ?

Not too bad thanks smile.gif Went for a brief jog earlier to test out my ankle, and it seems ok now. Can't put any pressure on my wrist yet, and my ribs were agony when my friend ran and hugged me! But on the whole I'm ok biggrin.gif And I've started to salvage bits of my bike too, I think I might have enough undamaged parts to reincarnate her...Frankenstein style tongue.gif

sad.gif Hope you've had that wrist X-rayed? I was trodden on by a horse and felt fine but the X-ray showed up a broken bone in my hand!!! Please make sure you're okay.

RIP bike. My lovely bike was put out to rust in an open barn unavoidably and I've only recently discovered my Dad still rides it down to his gate for the mail wacko.gif laugh.gif I think I should restore it - I bet it's worth a few bob like that Bugatti that was found untouched in a shed for 50-odd years and made 3 million at auction.....

Thanks Lottie, I did get it X-rayed and it came back ok (thankfully, because I was worried how serious damage might affect my playing unsure.gif ). As for that bike, there's big demand for vintage cycles at the moment, you might just have a hidden treasure - a "diamond in the rust" even! tongue.gif
