David Garner
Hi,

I like to walk into work on some days. It takes about an hour and it would be nice if I could listen to something on my ipod that would improve my aural. Specifically, I am due to take Grade 8 later this year and would like something that will prepare me for those aural tests.

I'm aware of Hofnote, but that is web-based and hence not suitable, and also the ABRSM "Aural Training in Practice" Book & CD but I don't really find those useful as training material - they're more like mock exams.

So, any suggestions please? I also sing in a choir and more generally would like to improve my recognition of intervals and recognition of harmonic progressions and cadences, etc, so the material doesn't have to be specifically geared towards G8 aural, although it ideally would be some use in preparing me for that.

Best,

David.

The CD that I'd recommend in these circumstances, because it's stand-alone and doesn't need a book is this one.

Alternatively, Aural Time by David Turnbull is good, with lots of examples, but you do need to check against the book as well.
