Full Version: I Love My Car

I made a rash decision this morning to come home over a high road and we have blizzards and about 3 feet of snow ohmy.gif.. but it was my direct route home huh.gif .

Quarter of a mile into this road the drifts from the fields were over four feet deep with soft snow and there had been no snow-plough!!! There was no room to turn round because it was a narrow road and the snow had earlier been piled over 5 feet high on the verges so I just had to go for it! It was blizzarding like white whirling dervishes too, completely white in front and behind.. and whistling like a banshee!

My wonderful 4WD ploughed manfully through the drifts but with the blizzard and the snow being thrown up and over the car and windscreen most of it was a total white-out. Twice I had to stop and clear the snow because the windscreen wipers weren't strong enough. Luckily I know this road very well so where I could see nothing in front I just had to guess (ohmy.gif blink.gif ) where the bends in the road lay... and this went on for nearly two miles! It was like being in a total white-out roller coaster and I don't think I took more than a couple of breaths in two miles because I was so scared! Thank heavens nothing was coming the other way!

I doubt any smaller car would have made it, and I know I was an idiot to try, but I just want to say I love my car for looking after me and getting me out in one piece. The road is now closed due to snow wacko.gif

I feel exhausted - like I have just survived a near-death experience! laugh.gif

Lucky you! A few years back we had a similar problem, but our little Renault 19 got stuck, so we had to leave it and walk home. blink.gif

It sounds very scary, lottie, glad you got home OK!

I felt the same about the Toyota Camry I used to have - I was once driving downhill in heavy rain and I started aquaplaning. At the same time, a car driving UP hill started aquaplaning towards me ohmy.gif The driver had a small child in the car, and I can still see the look on the driver's face. Just when it seemed like a collision was inevitable, I braked expecting to skid but my wonderful Camry came to a halt in an absolutely straight line and we missed each other by a fraction of an inch. I loved that car, but they don't sell them in this country any more sad.gif
