Quarter of a mile into this road the drifts from the fields were over four feet deep with soft snow and there had been no snow-plough!!! There was no room to turn round because it was a narrow road and the snow had earlier been piled over 5 feet high on the verges so I just had to go for it! It was blizzarding like white whirling dervishes too, completely white in front and behind.. and whistling like a banshee!
My wonderful 4WD ploughed manfully through the drifts but with the blizzard and the snow being thrown up and over the car and windscreen most of it was a total white-out. Twice I had to stop and clear the snow because the windscreen wipers weren't strong enough. Luckily I know this road very well so where I could see nothing in front I just had to guess (
I doubt any smaller car would have made it, and I know I was an idiot to try, but I just want to say I love my car for looking after me and getting me out in one piece. The road is now closed due to snow
I feel exhausted - like I have just survived a near-death experience!
oh .. did I say I love my car
