I'd like to know more about the Grade 4 Piano alternative pieces.
I thought I'd heard that there was a way to see the opening bars on the website, but I can't seem to find anything.
Did I dream this? smile.gif

There is a place to hear them - but bizarrely it's quite a tricky page to find! Here it is:

It is a tricky place to find as I was trying to look for it yesterday smile.gif

I'd recommend "On The Swing" from list C and "Stephanie's Song" is nice too.

I love Stephanie's Song! It is beautiful smile.gif One of my students has chosen it and she absolutely loves it - comes straight in and asks to play it and had it perfected in three lessons...! (This did mean the Mozart and Schubert didn't get much attention though... tongue.gif )

Thanks, Sue. I'm mostly interested in the B pieces. My student has almost decided on her A piece and absolutely loves the Kabalevsky C piece! Although it sounds like Stephanie's Song is really nice.

The Schumann is beautiful and very well-known - in tons of anthologies - quite slow and sad, but pretty too, and not too difficult, either, for children who have a nice touch and feel.

I agree that Stephanie's Song is lovely, and the other pieces in the Alan Haughton book are good too.
Walter Carroll is a bit of a favourite of mine, although I don't like The Reef as much as some of his others. I wasn't very taken with the Heller study, but the Schumann is a lovely expressive piece, and not too tricky - can't really go wrong with Schumann - either book would be a good buy (ie Album for the Young, or the Keyboard Anthology). On balance, I'd probably go for the Schumann. My student is doing the Vaughan Williams Valse Lente wub.gif

I like the Vaughan Williams, too, and my student is trying it at the moment, as she seemed to like the sound of it when I played the pieces to her. She's a lovely girl and works really hard, so I like to find pieces that really suit her. smile.gif

There are a number of youtube videos here;

The performer seems to have recorded lots of ABRSM pieces.

Walter Carroll's "The Reef' is a hit with mine.
