When I get into the Clarion register my notes sound a little flat. I have a Carmichael clarinet bought from Karacha on the internet... one of those Xmas deals- £249 reduced to £99. I'm wondering have I bought an inferior instrument or more probsbly is it something I'm doing wrong.I dont really have any friends that play that I could compare with.
The notes when played in the Chamaleau register sound fine... clarinet.gif

It's very easy to play chalumeau notes very well, only to find that the technique you use for them doesn't quite work in the clarion register, particularly if you've taught yourself.

It's likely to be one (or a combination) of a few things holding you back Kath.

* An embouchure that's too loose. You can get away with that to an extent down low, but not up high.

* You are not using enough breath support, or using overly cold air.

* You haven't got enough mouthpiece in your mouth : see if taking in a little more mouthpiece helps.

* The reeds you're using are too soft to control properly.

Hope this helps Kath. smile.gif

Thanks for all the suggestions Barri- I'll have an experiment later and see what happens.
I've just started a 'play today level 2' book with CD, and this has made my practise sessions so much more enjoyable. Its amazing what a difference having some accompaniment makes. clarinet.gif
