My sax is due to arrive tomorrow smile.gif

I am planning to take it very slowly to start with (given that I'll probably only have a few minutes each day!), and my plan is to set myself a goal of mastering one note per week. Long tones, and really listening to both the tuning and the tone. Plus obviously playing around with some simple tunes! Lessons aren't a possibility at the moment.

Any other tips?

When I started sax last October I bought the Learn as You Play book as I'd used the same series for clarinet, flute and oboe, I worked through one unit a day for the first half of the book and one unit every 2 days for the second half of the book. I did already have some single reed experience though which I guess makes a difference. I also started using the ABRSM scale book for some scale work.

I would concerntrate on your tone and correct breathing and play in a mirror occasionally to check that you aren't playing in any uncomfortable positions without noticing or puffing your cheeks out.

There are some useful beginner videos on Youtube too. The ones by Jason Justice are good.
