I'm looking to get a baroque flute. I'm seriously looking at the Moeck B03 at a=440. Does anyone own one or have played one? I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on it before committing myself!

There was a thread a while back about baroque oboes, and one of the conclusions reached had been that if you want to play replica early instruments, you'd also need to consider the likely pitch of others you might play along with - perhaps that's a bit different with the flute, but certainly for the baroque oboe, the consensus appeared to be that it would be better to have one at a'=415Hz: perhaps there might also be the option of going for one with a corps de rechange for playing at more than one pitch?
A separate thread also commented that whilst Moeck were great for recorders, their oboes were not necessarily the instruments of choice: it would be interesting to hear views on whether their flutes are a better bet than their oboes. Certainly it sounds as if there may be difficulty for Moeck in keeping the craft skills in-house that they've been able to call on up til now, with their oboe makers retiring.

Yes, pitch is a big issue. The flute I had was not Baroque, but was far enough away from concert pitch to be all but impossible to play with other people on modern instruments (because tuning one octave higher doesn't mean that the octave above and below that are in tune)...I eventually sold it for that reason (but now of course I regret that!).

I was thinking about a=440 because I don't, at the moment, know anyone that plays a baroque instrument, so I'd be playing it with, for example, a modern piano. I may consider also getting one at a=415 in the future. Getting one with a corps de rechange is certainly an option, but they are all rather expensive. I haven't played a baroque flute before so I don't want to spend a huge amount and then find out that I'm no good at it after all (I love baroque music, so I'm hoping this won't happen, but you never know).
It's interesting what you say about Moeck baroque oboes. I think I'll wait until I find someone who has a Moeck flute until I decide whether to buy one or not. It's certainly something to think about.
