Are you allowed to do say two practical exams in say one period,
FOR EXAMPLE Like say: grade 1 then grade 2 in say period A.
I am just very curious as there was a post somewhere saying that the ABRSM don't mind this or something, which I thought was quite strange. Apparently the overseas students do it alot aswell...
XD I'm so confused. Does anyone know if this is allowed???
I think it's quite a good idea as people at higher levels can progress quicker if they want to do the grades in chronological order but it also seems a bit unfair on the other candidates...
Please share your opinions. XD

I guess you might be able to do that that but why would you want to? There's no reason at all to work through every grade when you are at the ability of a higher grade level. So if you're ready to do grade 2 then you can just take that instead of bothering with grade 1.

I can't see why anyone would want to, unless they're determined to get a full set of certificates, even though it would mean working for more than one grade at a time. There is nothing to stop anyone doing this & I can't see how it could be unfair to other candidates in any way.

Even if the dates do not crash, I think it would be funny to meet the same examiner twice in one period. party1.gif

"Ah, it's you again? Grade 3 again? Ah no, it's Grade 2 today!"

Personally if I was ready for the higher grade I wouldn't do both mainly to save money.

I did grade 3 piano and recorder in the same session and I had the same examiner for both which was a bit strange, but I think it would be even weirder for the same instrument and different grades.

You can do as many exams as you like / wish in one exam session if you were crazy enough to want to. Quite often here (where there are only two practical exam sessions per year) one candidate does exams on two different instruments. But I think your question was more about the same instrument?

I suppose there might be something to be said for it: if, for instance, you were a nervous performer, and didn't make the higher grade on the day, at least you would not walk away (metaphorically speaking) emtpy-handed. But I also gather that some people enter for two Grade 8s in the same session (same instrument) but at different exam centres, so that if either of them go badly, they still have a chance to pass. Might be important if the deadline was looming for univeristy entry, for example.

Whatever candidates do, it's their decision / money / instrument / time, and I don't think it is in any way unfair on other candidates.

That would be quite a laugh.
*Oh no there back again* XD I just think it is a bit weird apparently oversea's students do it all the time because of the time gap or something. Quite clever really but time and effort *IS IT WORTH IT* XD

Something similar happened to my son when he took grade 5 clarinet on the Monday afternoon and then grade 5 piano on the Tuesday morning. The examiner had to be reminded which aural tests he'd been given the previous day, as he didn't want to use the same tests twice! It was fortunate that son had quite taken to the examiner; at 12 kids are less relaxed than at junior age.

I'm not sure doing two exams in the same session is a good idea at higher grades. Both son and daughter coped fine for the first few grades, but after grade 5 son always made sure that he did only one per session. With school work on the top, it's quite an effort doing two grade exams in the same week, and if you don't like the examiner it would set up extra stress for the second exam.

I agree at grade 1 & 2 maybe 3 i think is ok but when you get to grade 4 + it's just too much XD

I did my grades 1 and 2 piano on the same day, one after the other. I was working for grade one but as I was fine with the pieces long before the exam, I started looking at grade 2 as well. and i didn't want all my work on the grade 1 pieces to be a waste.
actually i think i did grade 2 before grade 1 for some s-t-r-a-n-g-e reason.
