Think we're up to the high teens in numbers coming. Still a little string-thin, so do check the diaries, I don't need to close applications 'til the start of May. smile.gif
This is one of the events that I had pencilled in earlier, as I really enjoy playing in a group and want more experience of doing so. I also had hoped to finally meet up with Babybird 2 smile.gif . However, it has turned out to be on a day that I can't make, so I am sorry Barry not to be joining you for this one. sad.gif

I hope you have a good day smile.gif .

I'll see you in Leeds anyway laugh.gif

Thanks gedall40, sorry you can't make this playday : all being well, I'll see you at another event (Stalybridge? Chester?)

There's another orchestral playday scheduled in Taunton, Somerset for Saturday 3rd October. smile.gif

There will be two more PO Box collections, tomorrow and next Wednesday (6th May). All applications need to be with me by Wednesday. Thanks! biggrin.gif

I think there will be scope to decide on the day as last time but I'll have a chat to them one evening this week.

Very quick reminder : I need to know if you're coming by Wednesday at the latest - this is when I'm going to the PO Box for the last time. There may not necessarily be music available for all the pieces in the playday if you don't inform me of your attendance by then.

Many thanks! smile.gif

Going to the PO Box in a moment : if you decide at the last minute that you want to come along, please let me know sometime today, either by posting on this thread, or by email, or by PM, or by text.

Thanks! smile.gif

I think I asked this before... the pub is near the venue, right? Is that towards the tram stop or the other way?

I'm getting a bit worried about getting back to town and back to Leeds and stuff rolleyes.gif

I don't think you will be travelling alone on the tram back to town even if you stay for the meal. I can always drop you at the station if you do end up in that situation.

The pub is opposite the venue (need to check tonight they can do it) on the main road, it's close to the Ladywell stop (these two stops are very close together).
barry-clari
Don't know if I'll get a chance to be online again after tonight, so I'll take this opportunity to remind you all to bring stands, instruments and packed lunches - and I'll see you all on Saturday morning. I've put enough music in the pads to keep us going for more than one playday! biggrin.gif

Looking forward to seeing you all! smile.gif

gedall40
This sounds as if it was fun. Would someone like to briefly tell me what you did, as I haven't attended this type of event before.

Thank you biggrin.gif .

Babybird2
Basically, a group of people (adults and children) turn up with their instruments...Yesterday there was about 20 of us, 2 violins, a flute, a bass clarinet (I think!), lots of claris and oboes, a trombone, a bassoon, a percussionist...I think that's it smile.gif

We basically sight read stuff for the day. We might work on a piece for 20 mins-half an hour, then we go onto the next one, and then we have a break and drink tea and eat biscuits laugh.gif

Sight reading for that amount of time sounds a bit scary, but there's something available for everyone's standard.

It's all pretty relaxed and it's great fun (and judging by the giggles coming from the oboe section yesterday, it's especially fun if you play oboe wink.gif ) party1.gif

And we go out for dinner and drink wine laugh.gif
gedall40
Well, Babybird, you have convinced me I should try and get to one of these, and maybe help provide some giggles in the flute department.

The last sentence makes it sound pretty good, too biggrin.gif

Oboists are QUITE MAD you know wacko.gif

It's particularly good fun (?) when you get more flats and ledger lines than you can comfortably handle. Ah well, I played more notes than last year so it was progress and it's nice to bathe in the reflected glory of those who can play better.
Babybird2
Gedall, I'm sure you would love it if you came to one of the playdays laugh.gif

I played the most notes out of anyone in the flute section laugh.gif (definitely more than last year wink.gif )

Rachi (who was to direct half of the day) was unfortunately taken ill the night before, and didn't make it sad.gif . She is now very much on the mend, and I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing her all the best.
