Anyone had their piano toned as well as tuned? i changed tuner and the new one suggested my yamaha needed toning. I think it got holes punched in its felt on the hammers and he told me the piano would sound odd for a bit.
A couple of weeks later on one note still sounds odd, Is toning a good idea???
I had the holes punched in the hammer felt before too. It is termed as "voicing", and that procedure should make the felt "softer", and hence the note hit less "sharp" and "bright". If you want the note brighter, I think there is a another procedure that involves some chemical liquid that can harden the felt.
Voicing did not help my problem, because I heard a "ting", which I later found to be inherent in most acoustic pianos, including grands. I was just not accustomed to a real acoustic, as I had only a digital and a very "blurred" 20-year-old acoustic before that. So there was no problem, and hence nothing to be fixed.
But tuning did help a lot.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, happy pianist - 2 freshly tuned pianos in the house!
Wishlist for when I am rich and famous includes having my piano tuned every week - I would hire a manicurist to come and do my toenails at the same time - I could lie back and chat to my tuner while being beautified - perfect!
OH... how lovely! We call such a person with such a life a "tai-tai", meaning a "rich man's wife".
