Full Version: Silvetta Recorders, Anyone?

So I started to look for affordable (to me) tenor recorders made of wood. This is probably the least expensive one I've found:

http://www.long-mcquade.com/?page=products...;ProductsID=631

I don't see a lot of information about it anywhere - I hazard the guess that it probably wouldn't be worth pulling the trigger on, however, I am curious about what anyone thinks, or if they themselves have any experience with it/the brand.

Thanking you again,

My instinct from that website was to stear well clear of them. $160 for a descant or even treble might just be ok, but for a tenor... also, the picture on the site wasn't even of a tenor, so that doesn't say too much either!

I'd be very suspicious as all the pictures are of the same Recorder, a two piece Descant, not exactly what I would expect from a reputable site.

I didn't look at the postage in this instance but I have looked at postage before from America and often it's very similar to the price of the product.

If I felt I had to them i think I'd go for a Descant and try them first at least it wouldn't be a major loss. To be honest I'd just buy a plastic one until I could afford to upgrade. That's possibly a bit rich coming from someone who's just bought their daughter a wooden Tenor.

Oh I don't know. I've got a perfectly decent Kung 2 piece descant.

I would agree with that though. A secondhand plastic Yamaha or Zen-on from Ebay should be just the job.

Or you get a second hand wooden tenor from the Early Music Shop. Have a look at http://www.earlymusicshop.com/

You could buy a new wooden Canta for about the same price as some of those.
