I am taking my grade 5 cello in 3 weeks and my accompanist has just dumped me! I can't find anyone else and now I am going to forfeit my entry fee (£50)!!! As a teacher and accompanist myself, I can't believe someone would drop out without finding a replacement! Rah rah rah!!! mad.gif Can you tell I'm mad?
Thanks for letting me rant!

That is bad.

Yhave every right to be annoyed.

But don't give up yet, there may even be someone on here who can help in your area.

Good luck!

All is not lost. This happens (very) occasionally. If your teacher does not already know a backup, you should contact your ABRSM rep and explain your situation and ask them if they know of anyone who might be able to help. The chances are that they will know many of the accompanists in your area and can suggest an alternative. In the unlikely event that that fails, get in touch with your best local music shop, who will, again, probably have lots of contacts.

Has your accompanist pulled out because your date is inconvenient, or do you suspect that they have just chickened out? If it is the later, then it is probably better that you found out sooner rather than later that they were not up to the job. However, if it is simply that your exam date - for some reason - is not possible but another date may be, establish which dates might be possible and, again contact your exam rep and ask for help in rescheduling the exam to a more convenient time. Our local reps are usually very helpful with this sort of thing - I have occasionally had to arrange to reschedule pupils' exams for reasons including school trips, clashes with GCSEs or A levels and where my accompanist had a clash with another exam at another venue.

...and if that still doesn't bring joy, contact your nearest LEA's music service : they will probably have lists of accompanists you can try.

Hope you get yourself a new accompanist quickly.
