Anyone on here thinking of, or signing up to attend the LCS cello day at the Royal Academy of Music?

I received the booking form this morning and there are some really useful classes being run on tone production, technique etc.

I am thinking about it but have never done anything like this before - I was also considering the Oxford Cello School summer programme one day . . .need more courage!

I went to the LCS gathering (for the first time) last year and picked up a lot of useful tips, even in just one day.

Rest assured that it's not a one-size-fits-all approach. When you complete the application form, you tick a box as to the standard of your playing. That way you will be put into a group with adults of a similar level. (It's always best to slightly underestimate your ability that to overestimate). All of the amateur groups are adults, there are no children amongst them. Children are put into totally seperate groups and they have to be a minimum of Grade 5 to take part anyway, whereas the adult amateur groups are split Grades 1 to 3, Grades 4 to 6, and Grades 7 to 8+.

You can also choose what you want to actually take part in. There's no obligation to do everything and you aren't required to play solo, it's a group practical session and you're all working together.

The day costs just £45 - a bargain in my view, considering the level of the tutors. The Oxford Cello School is probably very nice, but on a personal level, my finances have to be shared amongst other activities besides music.
