Barenboim, Op.2 No.1, 1st Movement

Hi all,

Firstly, aside from my qualm following, it is a wonderful performance if a little too fast.

I noticed that right at the end, in the last four bars, Barenboim plays something resembling an Eb chord or a major chord in any case. This I just gathered from listening obviously.

I do play this regularly but in the score and in the progression the chord should be a diminshed chord before hitting the C7th chord. Do I have a dodgy edition or something? It might be that good old Dan gets it wrong, or my ears more likely.

Anyone care to comment?

There is no diminished chord in the last group of 8.
The chord three from the end (Before the C7) is not diminished . Its a Bflat chord with added 6th.
Notes from the bottom LH Bflat ,D,G,Bflat. RH F,G,D,F.

I do not know which edition of the Sonatas you are reading from but all three of the editions I have (Urtext of Arrau/Hoffmann-Erbrecht Peters;old ABRSM-Craxton/Tovey; and Pauer) show the following :

Bar 150 1st crotchet DIMINISHED chord : l.h. gnatural dflat/r.h.gnatural bflat dflat -(theoretically root position)
bar 151 1st crotchet DIMINISHED chord with addition of a minor 7th: l.h.bflat dflat gnatural bflat/r.h.f&gnaturals dflat fnatural (theoretically 1st inversion)
These are the chords I play and every concert pianist I have heard plays them.

Oops sorry yes ! Must have had a brainstorm - I agree first chord bar 150 is a diminished chord, , Ive played it like that for 45 years ! I guess I was forgetting the D flat earlier, same with first chord of bar 151. Missed the D flats again.
Shoot this pianist !

I have a typeset from the Peters edition I think. So I take it Barenboim made a boo-boo? Even super-humans make mistakes....it wasn't important anyway just curious if my ears still work...
