Beth was awarded this during assembly yesterday for participation in Music.
It is a really nice certificate and she is very happy.
It is really good for her because so much time is spent worrying about her dyslexia and language and it is good to come to everyone's attention because of something she did well at.
The only fly in the ointment is the child who spent his time protesting to Beth that he deserved one too. GRRR.

That's a lovely public acknowledgement of her achievement in music hurrah.gif (And don't let the sour grapes boy spoil it smile.gif)

Congratulations to your daughter, what a fantastic idea too, is this something that they have done especially for her or is it standard practise?

My daughter has had to watch as many of her friends have received colours for sport (which she tries really hard at too) but there's never anything for the musicians which is particularly extraordinary given the school it is!

Well done to your daughter..... that's really good.....
My son has dyspraxia and his school rewards him for his work in drama..... It's good for all children to be recognised for what they are good at......

Beth said that other children got certificates too, mostly for sport I think. It is for her participation rather than her achievement which I think is great.
I am hugely impressed with the school on every front apart from the buildings which mostly need knocking down. The school is a science and language specialist school but has a purpose built, state of the art, music block and the most phenomenal music teachers who work so hard to give everyone with an interest in music opportunities to play.
Actually all her teachers seem to be outstandingly good. The maths teachers man a lunchtime group, which seems to also cover lunchtime detentions, so that anyone with a maths problem can go and get help. Beth's form tutor's reaction to finding out she was dyslexic was to tell me that she was usually in her classroom at lunchtime and break and that Beth was always welcome to come and see her if she needed any help. Anyone with special needs, which covers both my children, is able to go to "The House", which is a semi in the grounds, if they need to where help is available.
The French teacher designs different ways of testing Beth's progress having found out that there is no chance of Beth learning to spell in French.
I don't know much about the sport but I bet it is good.

Thanks for sharing, Dora, and congratulations to your daughter. It sounds like she is in a fantastically supportive environment, lucky you!

Well done beth. You clearly earned your reward. It is good getting recognition for somethingnwhich is often over loked in chools.

Some things at schools are not rewarded enough with colours certificates. For example I am the best squash player in my school, at least I have never been beaten by anyone other than the head of sport, and I never get a single piece of recognition.

I am th best violinist in my school, I never get recognitin for it.

I read this yesterday and wanted to sleep on it before replying.
I think this is very sad and a terrible indictment of your school. I can't find the motto of my children's school but it is along the lines of encouraging every child to reach their potential. It fits exactly with my view of what a school should be doing. I volunteer at the school to read exam papers to children who find reading difficult. I really don't care if a child is exceptionally good at something or not but they should have their effort and achievement recognised and if someone is exceptionally good at something it should be recognised. I have no idea why a school wouldn't do everything possible to recognise student's efforts and achievements.
It seems as if you do have opportunities to gain recognition for your music outside of school which is great.
Good luck
