Hi all,

Does anybody know when sibelius 6 will be released? Im gettint sibelius for my 18th and am thinking whether it would be better to wait and get sibelius 6 if its out soon.

I got Sibelius 4 a little while back, and was given about 4-5 months notice of Sibelius 5's launch.

Bearing that in mind, I'd think the very earliest there'll be a Sibelius 6 will be mid-late July, and I suspect it'll be later than that.

Ooh yes, I want to know the answer to this question too (I'm wanting it for Christmas though tongue.gif )

Thanks for the reply, my b'day is just after then anyay so it would be out at a good time, although, i don't mind waiting, but if its going to be a while ill just get the current sibelius.

As there's nothing officially announced, I think that'd be a good thing. If you decide you then want the extras from Sibelius 6, you can decide to add them as an upgrade (which you would admittedly have to pay for).

Resurrected this thread to say I've just received an email, with the title 'Sibelius 6 is here'.

Main improvements appear to be a device to prevent symbols crashing into each other, and a simulated keyboard where you can direct your mouse to which keys you want, and print that on a normal score...

I'm sceptical. Has anyone used Sibelius 6 yet and if so, how have you found it?

surely this is a problem with your percussionist rather than the notation software.

I would recommend getting a USB NumPad to stick on top of your MIDI device if it's not underneath the desk, this will make it a lot easier to switch between note types when not recording in real-time. smile.gif

That is good. Thanks for the info.

I had the email about Sib 6 too smile.gif

Seems to me they've added a lot more to 6 than they did for 5, and I must say I'm very tempted by the idea of dynamics and things spacing themselves out properly!

Like the idea of being able to link up things like Cubase etc with my Sib, and to be able to play straight into the programme via a mic...I'm playing with some improvisation at the moment and am wondering if this would be useful to look back over and analyse what I actually did/didn't do to improve things... (I find it easier to do backwards than forwards, otherwise I end up "writing" the melody rather than actually improvising which defeats the point, but I am not yet confident enough to know that what I'm improvising fits my chords etc etc!!) Although whether those functions would work for what I want them to in reality remains to be seen!

I also want to play with the conducting function, where you can tap along to your piece to get more of a "live" feel to the playback...can think of several things I'm involved in where this would be useful...and it sounds like fun to play with laugh.gif

Also, the new classroom features look very promising, although I know that's not relevant for every user!!

I might download the trial and play with that for a bit before I think about upgrading though...

If i told my music teacher about this, assuming she doesn't know (which is quite possible considering she seemed oblivious when we told her woolies had closed!) she'd feel like me...we've just upgraded all the PC's to sib5 last september and we're forever getting frustrated with dynamics etc on it...

now sib6 is coming...there's no way the school will include this as viable in their budget... and there's no point in getting it for home pc cus it won't go from one to the other so I wouldn't be able to work at home then school then home again...

yet a load of TV's around the school is completely viable (going off topic for 10secs, just had an email from school) Don't get me started on that. waste of money. why on earth would you want a TV in the library???

rant over. apologies for the interruption.

Bit off topic, but you would be able to export the file, so that it could be used on both.

I tried that, but because the school has Apple Macs, and I have a PC whenever I did work at home and put it on the school mac after, it turned to squares and other random shapes....

I guess it'll stop me spending more money anyway smile.gif
thanks for your help, i'll let you have your thread back now

That's a bit odd, i've never had a problem doing it between the two systems. But computers do seem to have a mind of their own.

I agree, bugets for Music departments are often very very tight... sad really sad.gif

I work on a Mac, and have never had any problems sending Sib files to PCs or back again, even with different versions, and via pen drive and email...are you sure you exported it correctly or that the file hadn't become corrupt?
