There's been a lot of speculation about whether or not the new ABRSM logo will be appearing on examination certificates this year, with a lot of people expressing disgust at the idea and others not being bothered.

For the sake of clarification - This session and the summer session at least will have the crest and original images, etc.

I know this because my students who sat exams this session received the original ones, and when I spoke to someone I know who works in the relevant department of ABRSM, she confirmed that the roll out of the logo would be 'gradual' and as such would not apply to certificates at least for a while (I couldn't get her to say whether it would definitely be being applied to certificates or not, but at least for the immediate future it looks like they won't be using it just yet.)

So the way I look at it at the moment - if you don't want the new logo and are in a position to do so, take the exam asap! tongue.gif

I've looked at recent certificates and if the crest is kept on the top, the new logo can happily appear at the bottom instead of the blue box.

If the board want to use the logo on syllabi, and publications fine, but I still want the crest at the top.

Aesthetically, I think this would look good. You would get a smart certificate with a crest on the top, and the new logo at the bottom.

Hi everyone,

Just to confirm - we will in fact be releasing new certificates to accompany results for the summer (B) period of exams in the UK. These will feature both our crest and the new logo.

Thanks,

Ed

In that case, I sincerely apologise for the mis-information that I passed on above.

No need to apologise - you've succeeded in achieving what at least four long-running threads failed to achieve, which is clarification from the board on what was happening biggrin.gif

(still don't like it though, Ed - sorry!)

Well, as long as the crest is bigger...

Thanks Ed.

What every thread about this has said has been we want our Crest.

Thank you. I'm sure the new certificates will look lovely.

Just seen the new logo - YUK! ohmy.gif

I assume that people are mistaken when they think that this logo will replace the crest?

The crest isn't the logo, it's there as it's the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

This new logo will presumably replace the current blue logo, which I think is pretty bland anyway.

IF the ABRSM is mad enough to give me a grade 8 piano certificate when I take it in the summer, I could scan it up on here for everyone to see if they aren't taking an exam this term?

Thanks, Jacob! I for one would love to see a new style certificate. smile.gif

Can you give us any indication of their relative sizes and positions on the new certificates? What else, if anything, will be changing?

Not as yet. Size and positioning of crests and logos - and other design changes - have not been confirmed.

Has anyone at the AB taken notice of the many threads on here where people have expressed an extreme dislike of the new logo? rolleyes.gif

I suspect they'll say, "you can't please everybody" in public, and some of them will be thinking "heck, we paid £xxxxx for that thing" in private...
BassoonBoy
I've just been looking through certificates and what I think may happen is the blue logo thing at the bottom, above the registered charity number and below the signature, could be the thing they replace with the new logo. I hope thats all they change. I don't think the change will be too drastic.

These are only my thoughts, not facts.

I really hope they don't change much, I think they look really good as they are. And if they do change it, my older certificates won't fit!

Look on the website under the 'news' section. You may not want to actually look though...

The style isn't too bad as contemporary logos go (I've seen much, much worse), but the colour is a luminous red... ill.gif

Exactly what I was imagining (except with a ruder word than "heck" wink.gif )

I tried, but couldn't find it. Wonder what I did wrong this time!

From what I can see of the very very tiny photo of the new certificates, it's not as bad as I thought it might be...I do have to agree though, I very much like the crest being there...I suppose it's just that I've grown up seeing it on things and therefore it seems wrong for it to not be there! I definitely prefer the new logo, red crown on white, than red box with white crown...although as I say, that's judging by the very very small picture!
Pleased that for the most part the certificate text and layout appears to be the same, though if nothing's confirmed for definite yet, I suppose that's all subject to change!!

Do the whole lot again, to get some matched certificates biggrin.gif
You could do them in random order, so you'd end up with a full set of match certificates, but with the dates all over the place biggrin.gif Or work from 8 back down to 1...
ChevvyChev
hahaha, 1-8 in blue and then 8-1 in red for my practical?! laugh.gif I could put them on the wall in an arrow shape hahaha tongue.gif laugh.gif
Ah, the red-ness of my (fingers crossed, eeeeek!!) grade 8 theory certificate will just remind me how hard I've had to work for it!! tongue.gif

My grade 8 viola is the last ABRSM exam I'll ever take (but i said that after rgade 8 piano as well...) and I think its a shame that if I pass the certificate won't match the others.
bassoongirl
Why couldn't they have kept the logo the same?or even just the colour
I don't mind it but I'm now going to have prep test to grade 7 in blue and grade 8 in red
Flossie
Well, I've just received the certificate from my grade 7 flute, which I did with Trinity Guildhall, and it looks very nice. biggrin.gif

It's actually looks more impressive than my degree certificates (although that's not difficult compared to my Master's certificate. rolleyes.gif).
