One of my pupils had grade two piano today. I was unable to go as was accompanying at a different venue.

She overheard the steward telling the pupil before her that 'the piano was dodgy'...? as he had come out saying that he kept going wrong. This obviously unsettled her moments before she went in and she thinks she has done badly. She is the kind who usually says it was fine, or it was good or whatever, and is not usually negative.

I played this particular piano last week as I was accompanying an exam, and it was fine. Could something have happened to it since then, or what?

I don't know if I should say something to the board about the steward making comments like this in the waiting room?? I know that she should have done well in this exam, so I dunno?!

Also, the examiner was apparently quite strict - which was poles apart from the exams I was accompanying with the nicest examiner I have ever come across, she was just brilliant and the kids had such a good exam experience!! It just doesn't seem fair sometimes!!

Hmm, too many possibilities for misunderstandings here I think. The child overheard a remark, you weren't there - hardly the basis for a complaint. You have no way of knowing what really went on. I would forget it, move on and await the result.

She's a teenager, so I don't think she misunderstood - the waiting room is tiny and she heard the whole conversation. Anyway - you're probably right - just forget it and see what the result is.

cheers.

Do you think the steward may have said that to make the boy before her feel better? Maybe she thought that it would cheer him up a bit if it wasn't his fault and didn't realise that another child could hear?

Could just be good intentions gone wrong!

As Sue said I would just wait for the results. I hope she did well!
