My grade 7 piano exam coming soon. [don't want to say when but under 2 weeks] and I have a sore throat and absolutely flu-ish
ugh! Don't need this.
Also, after 10 years of being with my piano teacher, is it normal to still feel nervous around her everytime I go and slip up when I don't slip up at home? I don't exactly know why i'm so nervous but yeahh. I don't think this is normal..

Absolutely normal to feel nervous when making slips in front of your teacher. I do all the time, it's chiefly because you care about your playing and how your teacher perceives your playing...

Two of my (mature) students who have known me for years still tremble quite noticeably when playing to me.

I think maybe we should poll your students for the definitive answer...

Don't worry, getting nervous in front of your teacher just goes to show how much practise you have been doing! People who practise lots will feel nervous as they want to do all the hard work they have done justice by playing at their best to their teacher.
Sometimes I find the lesson before the exam almost as nerve-wracking as the exam itself!

For some reason I cannot quite pinpoint, I felt extremely angry when I played in front of my previous teachers (both males) but not much when I play in front of the current teacher (a female) and I now wonder whether it has something to do with the ### or with the teacher's attitude. The teacher I currently study with treats mistakes as a very normal part of a class, a necessary accident that simply must happen for her to be able to teach, makes no faces or strange clicks of the tongue when I slip, etc. etc and this creates a relaxed atmosphere which reduces my anxiety ... My attutide towards mistakes is hypercritical, being as I am a 52-year-old student with an extensive past in music and recognising as I do (almost) everything that goes wrong when I play, even subtle nuances that I don't achieve and I believe this teacher is slowly leading me towards a more comfortable attitude towards them.

Will my pieces get disqualified?
My teacher said, that my pieces may be unaccepted.... ?

Sorry if I've missed something here - but why would your pieces be disqualified?
I'm sure you 'll be fine. It's quite normal to be nervous. One of my exam candidates last week said her hands and feet were shaking from the moment she woke up! Not long to go now!

Why does your teacher think that?
If they are on the syllabus and the right combination of pieces (one from each list) there's no problem.

I think it's the sign of a good teacher (as opposed to 'merely' a good pianist) who can alleviate the anxieties of their students. My current teacher also has an uncanny ability to make me feel at ease when I make mistakes. Once he said: 'Make sure you don't grow if you get a wrong note in front of the examiner.' We just laugh it off now! I think for some having a male teacher, who is of superior ability, is going to create feelings of competitive tension, and that in itself will create a feeling of unease and anger in a pupil.

Just to let you all know.. The exam went okay.
Scales - all okay, apart from I kept getting my minor and major confused in the appregios. but otherwise all good. .. I think stacatto could be better.. but I always thinks that.
A1. Just one slip near the start but rest went okay. =)
B3. All went okay. No slip ups.
C3 All went okay. no slip ups.
Aural. Abysmal. enough said.

Sight Reading - meh, it went okay. I forgot some notes but all in all okay. I tried to make semi-quavers semi quavers etc.

thanks for letting us know how it went ! It sounds as though you did fine.
One of my candidates last week came out convinced that she had failed. Her first piece went ok ( I think that's probably right because another candidate heard it and thought it was good), and apparently after that she felt as though her vision went misty and she couldn't see clearly - just played on autopilot!
Forget about it now until the result comes through !
