I had my grade 8 Piano today smile.gif
I think it wasn't bad but it could have been (much) better. The scales were mainly a bit slow I think and I stumbled on one or two quite badly but it was alright apart from that. The pieces had occasional slips but weren't bad. The sight reading was either just about enough to pass or a fail ph34r.gif The aural tests were easy but I think I got a few wrong and I don't know about the ones I feel confident with.

So I'm sure I got more than 100 marks but I don't know if i'll get a merit or not but never mind lol
How was everyone else's exams? I hope the results come quite soon.
Jazz Chicken
Fingers crossed for you, for a good result.

biggrin.gif

Having just taken my Grade 1 exam last weekend, I can't imagine how it must feel to be able to play to your standard.

Well done on getting there biggrin.gif

Sounds to me like a certain Merit, and hopefully more! Fingers crossed for you.

As to my Grade 7 yesterday - please see my post in 'what a disaster' to save me writing it all out again. Having slept on it and had a post-mortem with my teacher this morning, I am reasonably hopeful of a Merit. We'll both have to wait and see.

Having heard you play I'd say you were much more worthy than a G7 Merit biggrin.gif

Good luck for the results liz!

Had my grade 8 Oboe today!

Piece 1 - telemann Bb sonata 1&4th mvts. The 1st movement was good. A bit of water in the key between C and B but not noticeable. Thought I got it out with cigarette paper but the 4th movement was affected a bit by the water and I was so nervous because of it that I couldn't keep the last note going at all and it was really short and some tuning wasn't quite right either

In between the 1st and second piece, the water problem was solved which took ages and made me feel really bad but I'm thankful that the examiner was a flautist so would know a bit about key problems. (maybe).

Piece 2 - Saint saens 1st mvts.. Was quite good apart from the usual which I'm used to but is still annoying. The last note was a bit short again but it wasn't too bad.

piece 3 - Bach sinfonia. This was as good as I could do it under pressure

scales - Fasle start in 1 or 2 scales. Mistook Gminor for diminished 7th and had to start again and needed to play the B in B diminished 7th twice because it didn't sound right. ph34r.gif Apart from that I think it was all good smile.gif

Sight-reading - I think I might have made a few errors but was as good as I wanted it to be.

Aural tests - the singing the bass line was the same to the piano grade 8(don't tell the examiner tongue.gif )and I'm pretty sure I got that right. The modulations were alright I think. The cadences were totally inaccurate ph34r.gif and the examiner kept asking questions on the things I didn't concentrate on for the discussion. (was there a big dinamic range? errm.....)

So over all, I'm pleased with the exam but the 1st piece was affected by the water problem and the break between the 1st and 2nd piece to solve it was very embarrassing so I haven't a clue how I did...

Piece 1 - 25 'cause of water problem and tuning and ending
Piece 2 - 26 because of some usual errors which never seem to get better.
Piece 3 - 27 because it was good enough for an exam.
Scales - 19 it was only one or two minor errors
Sight - reading - 18? I thought it went really well
Aural tests - 12 - no comment lol

so that's 127 then if I was examining myself...

I just took Grade 7 oboe and my examiner was my old piano teacher!! sad.gif
BerkshireMum
Well done, lizbun! Let's hope you've done better with the real examiner than you've done with yourself!! tongue.gif
It's so difficult to be objective about your own playing; wait and see what the result is.

I'm really surprised that it's allowed for you to be examined by someone you know! I know people who mark for GCE exam boards and there are very strict rules about not marking papers of anyone you know.

Hope it didn't put you off and that you felt the exam went well. If you are uneasy about it, get your teacher to say something to the Board.
bassoongirl
I'm fine
he worked it out as soon as I was int he room but it took me till just before the end to work out when he asked me how my piano playing was going!!

I'd not thought of it before but you're right if you know the examiner it could make a difference to how you play - either for the better or worse. ph34r.gif / biggrin.gif
Even having the same examiner as last time might make you feel (and play) differently

3 weeks tomorrow since the piano exam...

can't wait for the results unsure.gif hope they aren't too long

Hi all!

Been a while since I've been on here (I appear to have migrated to the worlds of facebook and twitter - any twitter users on here?) which is a shame, but what can I say...

Just wanted to let those of you know who may remember me that I finally took my G7 piano after like a ridiculous amount of changes with new piano teacher and stuff (I was going to do it last july with my old teacher, but really glad I didn't now...!) I've learnt so much new stuff and but though I'm glad I waited, I'm still annoyed with myself it took this long.

Anyway for those of you who know the syllabus I was playing:
A) Bach - Prelude in G (from well tempered klavier)
B) Mendelssohn - Song without words (no 6 i think?)
C) Bartok - Finale Mvt 3 from Sonatina.

Scales went miraculously well but you never know, do you?!
Bach was terrible. I don't want to revisit this.
Mendelssohn was okay, but a few slips.
Bartok went pretty good smile.gif
Sight reading was good.
Aural was horrid - but I've always hated aural!

So...we shall just have to wait and see. I'm hoping for a merit...

Lizbun - I can't believe you've done your g8 piano AND oboe! that's incredible! ohmy.gif good luck with your results on those.

And good luck to the rest of you smile.gif

I think you must have done pretty well overall. Good luck with the results! The grade 8s were meant to be at least a week apart because of different centres but only 2 days... If I did the oboe exam with trinity guildhall it could have been on the same day ph34r.gif

Well done, fantastic results - I don't think you realise how good you are! Good luck with Chet's, too. I hope it goes well - they must think you're promising to ask you for the 2nd audition.

Wow biggrin.gif Congratulations, Liz, they're incredible results, both of them! (especially the oboe, um, WOW)

Didn't realise you were trying for Chets, good luck with that smile.gif presumably oboe would be your principal study? That's something I'm looking at for next year but I've got a lot of work to do before then and to be honest I think it's a bit of a big ask for me, but we'll have to wait and see!

Thought I would let you all know I got a distinction (132) in my piano exam, which I'm really happy about:

Bach - 24/30
Mendelssohn - 27/30
Bartok - 28/30
Scales - 19/21
Sight reading - 18/21
Aural - 16/18

I think these correlate pretty well with how I thought it went, only a bit higher marks!

Happy, happy, happy... biggrin.gif
