Full Version: Is There A Website Which Will Transpose Music For Me?

Hi,

I am trying to get back to my singing to take my mind off other stuff, but I'm coming up against a problem.

My teacher has asked me to transcribe Barbra Streisand's Evergreen from A into C. It shouldn't be that difficult, but each time I try to sit down and write out the music I just keep making more and more mistakes. I understand that I'm probably not at my best given my recent bereavement, but even so I wish my brain would start working again. I feel a bit panicky that I won't be able to write the music correctly and have the copy ready for him in time for our next lesson. And I do need to get on with this song if it's to be ready in time.

I've got the original score in A. But I'm wondering whether there is a website where I can buy it in that format where you can transpose it on the computer? Do you know what I mean? I'm happy to pay for it, not looking for a freebie - just something that will take care of this task for me whilst I've got so much else on my mind.

If anyone can offer advice or point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

Thanks

Ambs, if there is any way you can send me a verse of the score I will try to help.

When's next lesson?

(ed) this seems to be in C - don't know if it's any help

Hi Maggie,

Thank you! My scanner doesn't work, but if it would be ok could I pop a photocopy in the post to you? Next lesson's mid next week. I wouldn't want you to go to loads of time and effort though. I can't understand why my brain just won't compute. It's not a particularly difficult piece of music. But for some reason it's just a step too far, and trying to work it through has given me more panic attacks. I just want to be "normal" again and be able to do "normal" things. sad.gif

I got all excited for a mo looking at the musicnotes site (I've not come across that site before). But then I noticed that their arrangement doesn't have a separate vocal line, it looks more like an adaptation for piano only. Maybe that's why it was transposed up to C as well, to make it simpler to play?

YES! of course. will email my address.

I think the vocal line is there somewhere - but I should have spotted that it might not be easy to pick out.

Do you need the accompaniment as well or will just the vocal line do ?
Amber
Thank you so much......

Ideally I need both, but it's the accompaniment that I'm struggling with the most. It's like I've become sort of musically dyslexic - if that makes sense?

have e-mailed you.

For possible future use sheetmusicdirect.com allows you to transpose music into your key before you buy it. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have the song you're after, plenty of Barbra Streisand, but the only Evergreen are Will Young or Westlife versions.

I had another look at musicnotes and found a different version for both piano/vocal, and I've found how to transpose it, managed to buy it and print it off. Maggie, thank you and I have emailed you (again!)
Thank you TSax for details of the other website.

Most welcome, Ambs. I'd have been more than happy to re-do it for you - but the solution you found means that you have it now instead of in a few days - so problem solved sooner! Thanks for your e-mails. x
