Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone had come across a tool for notating simple music on the computer...
I would like to produce my own theory exercises and have searched for a means so that I could write simple notation on a stave, rather than hand-writing it out, but to no avail so far.
has anyone come across anything like this?
thanks,

Finale Notepad does this, it is free to use too. I got it on a cd from my local music shop but I think you can also download it from the internet...

I use Finale PrintMusic 2008
It's simple to use, but comprehensive in its facilities.
They also have a VERY good help and support line.
I shopped around - the cheapest in the UK was £74.00 but I ended up buying it froma dealer on Ebay - from Massachusetts - for $67 !!! including shipping
Mind you that's when the $ rate was VERY good in 2008

MuseScore is free, and provides all of the basics, plus a fair bit more:

I would personally hand write it and get a cheap fax machine with a copier. You'll find yourself spending a lot more time on programs like Sibelius and Finale Notepad than if you hand wrote it as the programs can be really finickity. A cheap fax machine will cost you no more than £15-20 and save you a lot of time.

Finale Notepad isn't free anymore unfortunately

One of my students just downloaded it and I think it was around 7 or 8 pounds.

Musescore is wonderful, especially for writing out exercises and things like that.
The online help manual is also very useful.
And it is free so that is a huge bonus!

I use Lilypond, because it's free, can produce professional looking output, and for simple stuff is almost as quick as writing by hand.
However, it's not to everyone's taste, since it doesn't have a pointy-clicky interface, but requires typing stuff into a file and running a program to produce the output.

Help - how do I download it? I've clicked on the Download Now link and absolutely nothing happens!
Edit: Forget it, I've done it now, thanks
