hi, I've just done my grade 2 violin exam, which took me 11 months to do. I didn't do grade 1, my teacher told me not to bother. I got a merrit. Could someone tell me if this is good or not. I'm not sure how quickly people normally get to grade 2. Do most people find the violin difficult?

Hi Debra and welcome to the forums
A merit in any exam is pretty good going, so congratulations on that.
There are so many variables in how fast people get to grade 2, there's no simple answer to that question. And people vary in what aspects of which instrument they find hard, so that's not got an easy answer either.
Check out Viva Strings to chat about all things violin with like-minded souls.

thanks for your kind commemts, and yes the violin is so much fun, perhaps because it's so difficult (i don't know).
I'm just starting grade 3 and i see that you have to play dominant 7ths on some of the scales. I understand this and can play them on the violin, but i don't understand why you need to play them or their importance.
Is there anyone that can explain this.
