I was a steward at the above festival at the weekend, and in the open 'mini recital class' (2 or 3 contrasting pieces , about 15 mins), there were a few pieces I enjoyed which I hadn't previously heard.
The first was 'The Night's Music' by Bartok. I have quite a lot of Bartok, both as scores and recorded, and had never heard of it before. Furthermore , I havent as yet traced it. Does anyone know it ? Is it part of 'Microcosmos' or another larger work ? Doesnt seem to come up on varous 'on-line' suppliers.

I also enjoyed Scriabin's 'Poeme' which I didnt know but propose to obtain. I think its possibly been set as a Grade 8 or DipA before as it rings a bell. Does anyone play that ?

There also excellent performances of Messaien, and of a Leighton study, as well as Debussys study 'Pour les Octaves'

Later (15.07) edit. ... Just realised there are 6 sets of 2 Poemes (12 in all) by Scriabin, must check which Op number it was. I only know the Op11 preludes and the Op2 Etude in C#minor.

Much later second edit (16.14).... Have now discovered 'The Night's Music' is part of Bartok's Suite 'Out of Doors'
