Is anyone else enjoying watching the horse racing from Aintree? It is one of the highlights of my year. I managed to pick the first prize winner of the Foxhunter's Chase yesterday; I didn't place a bet though other then a virtual one which is just as much fun. Today's main event is the Topham Trophy. Many years ago a horse belonging to a friend won this and then raced again in the National the following day, coming second to that great horse, Redrum. We always thought that he would have won that race if he hadn't run on the previous day also.
I shall be glued to the television this evening watching a recording of today's race meeting as I have booked some lessons in this afternoon. Bad planning that was. sad.gif

biggrin.gif I have not the slightest interest in horse racing, and probably will not even watch the Grand National. In fact I've never been to a meeting, but would still like to have accompanied you to Aintree !! tongue.gif

Well, well! I thought that you must have been a lapsed jockey at least Fred, with such a flourishing Musical Horses thread! biggrin.gif
There is little to compare with watching a race live; you miss so much of the atmosphere by watching on TV. It is the difference between enjoying a real live performance of a favourite piece of music and listening to a snippet of it on Classic FM!
Yes, it would have been fun to have gone to Aintree. A pity that my raffle prize was just an April 1st one.

I remember going to Aintree with my parents as a child and not getting out of the car as it was so cold.

I have been to live horse racing, even though I'm not really into following it, have found it enjoyable.

I used to love going to Kendal Raceway to the Sulki(SP) Racing before it was sold off to a supermarket in the 90's.

.... I might have added that in an earlier time of my life, I used to go to the 'dogs' at Cat (!)ford or Wimbledon. Good fun as the races are only 15 mins apart.

I had heard it said that you'd gone to the dogs! tongue.gif

I wonder if we'll get a glimpse of Petra on TV! tongue.gif

Very unlikely as I shall be watching it from my sitting room this year. I still think that Rambling Minster will win.

Just placed my bets for the big race. Rambling Minster, Musica Bella and Comply or Die. Each way bets of £2 each! The last of the big spenders, that's me. smile.gif

That was a tremendous race - I watched it with three very engrossed 16-year-olds, though none of us had a bet on. One of them was far more knowledgeable than me about past winners blink.gif

Yes it was sad about the horse that died (Hear the Echo?) though fortunately the other one that collapsed did recover.

So how much did you make on Comply or Die?
