I will be taking my grade 8 in July with Trinity Guildhall, and I was just wondering what exactly the examiner is looking for? I'd really be aiming for at least a merit if I can, so what is expected of a candidate to achieve this? If it helps, I'm playing Mozart concerto no.2 1st movt, Syrinx and Ian Clarke Hypnosis. My pieces will probably be my strongest point, followed by scales and then aural and sight -reading are a bit grim blink.gif
Thanks for your help.

Can't think of what to say - but Hypnosis is lovely! (actually all of them are!)

There might be a mark breakdown on the Trinity website, but I would presume they're looking both for technical ability and musical playing.

You should be able to get hold of detailed marking schemes - they're in the exam regs booklet, which you can download from the website.

Here is a direct link to the Assessment Criteria for TG exams.

These pages are also included in the Info & Regs document, along with all sort of other interesting information. If you like reading that sort of thing. biggrin.gif

Thank you so much for your help! It was really useful to see that mark breakdown. I wanted to know really because this is the first exam that I've done. Thanks again biggrin.gif

EDIT: I meant to say this is the first exam I've done with TG! I've done grade 5 with AB about 2 years ago.
