Hello im Mark, and i have recently started to lean to play the violin at 30 (having not really learnt any music before)

The reason for the late start being that when i was in junior school I was told by the teacher that girls learn violin and boys play football! So i never bothered, thinking you couldnt if you had big hands!

But to the thanks of a very supportive partner, and a very enthuisiastic teacher (who showed me pictures of the size of Itzhak Perlmann's hands!) I started taking lessons two months ago (terrible at it, but i get a little better every week!)

Have a look at the Adult Learner's and Viva Strings parts of the forum - you should find lots of like-minded people and helpful topics.

I'm an adult learner (or returner?) too and play flute, piccolo and clarinet. I've always wanted to learn violin but, like you, my school wouldn't let me - and they made me do cello instead because that's what they had spaces for. The cello was too big and growly for me, but I am getting seriously tempted at the idea of learning the violin...
