I watched this - very interesting (although the camera didn't focus on the violas long enough laugh.gif ).

Some really interesting things.. and the philosophy of the 'quartet' seemed similar among the four quartets they interviewed; democracy, individuality and 'voice'. I wish I could use sections of the film in the work I am writing up just now because the interpersonal model of a string quartet is starting to be recognised as a useful tool in business mapping. "The Artist as Leader"! They'll have Damien Hirst and Peter Cropper working in the head office of ICI next!!! *horror* laugh.gif

I thought the fourth quartet interviewed (the brothers on 1st violin and cello?) was particularly good - I loved their overall sound but I've forgotton their name blush.gif can anyone remember please?

.. and the Bartok was brilliant!

Thanks Barri,

only got to see or rather hear the last 15 minutes as my sky box decided to not include the sound. lol.

Very interesting.

One day in the distant future I may be good enough to play in a quartet! blush.gif

Anatomy of a string quartet:

A good violinist, a bad violinist, an ex-violinist and somebody who hates violinists - all meeting together to complain about composers.

I thought the programme was great. So nice to have a quality programme about music which does not feel it has to target to the lowest common denominator. To have a professional musician explain that intonation is the biggest challenge after everything else is sorted out without having an ex blue peter presenter giving an over simplified and incorrect explaination of what intonation is.

Danel Quartet after the two brothers Marc and ???? Danel I think. They were good - but also the Mendelssohn quartet they played is one of my favourites. About a year ago I rediscovered some of his quartets in my cd collection and played them over and over for months.
