We have a musical Google logo today : for Vivaldi's birthday! biggrin.gif

Rather good I think it is too! biggrin.gif

Thanks for that barry-clari, I was wondering to what the violins/violas were referring. Looks good, even though I'm a keyboard-player myself!

You can, with all special Google logos, hover your computer cursor over the logo, and it tells you what the logo is commemorating. smile.gif

I am totally disgusted that the Google Logo didn't bother with International Women's Day. I take it that, as usual, half the world's population doesn't matter.

You will find that the world is more than 50% men.

The ratio of men/women is about 1.01 (so it's not purely the number of men that puts women in a "minority" position).

BTW, looks like the Baltic states and northern Russia are the places to be guys.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_sex_ratio

EDIT. Er, hang on, I've changed my mind. They're all over 65!! I'm not quite there yet.

EDIT a bit more. Those stats are quite interesting. Apparently 7% more males than females are born, but clearly mortality rates are higher earlier in males so in the older age groups there are more women than men.

There was one story in the complete edition of HCA's fairy tales that my father warned me against reading because it was so sad - The Ice Maiden (not to be confused with The Snow Queen). I still haven't attempted it!

'Earth Day' today, apparently! huh.gif

Is this part of a trilogy,"Earth, Sea & Sky"? huh.gif

Or perhaps,"Earth, Wind & Fire"?! laugh.gif

Or even,"Earth, Air, Fire & Water"? (Admittedly more of a quadrivium though)

I don't remember The Ice Maiden - I'll have to look it up smile.gif The Little Matchgirl is so very sad, but I've just got a copy of Gregory Maguire's short story Matchless, where he weaves the matchgirl's story in with one of another child. Good stuff smile.gif Another one I can't bear to read is Oscar Wilde's The Happy Prince ("swallow, little swallow"... sad.gif ) Where are the tissues? laugh.gif

According to the Telegraph:
"A rally that is expected to attract tens of thousands of people will be held this weekend in Washington DC with speakers including James Cameron, the Titanic and Avatar director, The Rev Jessee Jackson while Sting will also sing".

Aaaaah...neither can I...that and 'The Selfish Giant' I find quite impossible to read to children. It's not just the heart-breaking sadness of the story (yes, that repeated, 'Swallow, swallow, little swallow' is quite unbearable) but the children's faces and the spell that Oscar's language and story have over them that gets me every time...

Just tried clicking on the logo so I was taken to lots of info about the telescope. Then I found a link to making a model of the telescope - and suggestions that one might hold a telescope making party and then go to see a film about it all ohmy.gif ohmy.gif .
