Last night, I thought now or never, and filled in the form. I put it into an envelope, addressed it, and stuck a stamp on it. Then I left it on the hall table.

I just came back from my college teaching to find that some kind soul has put it in the post box. Now going back now!

I occasionally peep at the LRSM clarinet repertoire list and start compiling programmes

Seriously, I have put together so many different programmes over the last eight years or so, and was never entirely happy with any of them. This one hangs together rather nicely, even though I say it myself.

Oooh, brave andante! What programme have you settled on?

I'm doing the chamber music option with katyjay assisting.

The programme, provisionally entitled 'Birds and Tales' is:

Flute and piano:
Roussel Joueurs de Flute
Messiaen Le merle noir
Anne Boyd Cloudy mountain

Flute, soprano and piano:
Ravel La flute enchantee
Michael Head Bird-Song
Delibes Le Rossignol

A range of periods from mid-nineteeth century to late-twentieth century, and a range of moods and styles (I hope!).

I don't actually know any of those!

I hope you and katyjay really enjoy getting them all to performance standard.

You'll be fine Andante - I'm sure you'd romp through the FRSM as well already if you wanted to.

What's Cloudy Mountain like? I've never heard of it.

Hmm. Not so sure about that.

Cloudy Mountain was inspired by a painting of a mountain in Hong Kong. It uses the mode/pentatonic C#, D# E' G# A throughout. It is intended as a meditative piece - very slow and calm (expect where I'm trying to count triplet semiquavers tied in pairs against the piano playing demisemiquavers).

I played it at the recital I did with Barry-clari in Rotherhithe last March, so some Forums members will have heard it then.
