Hey smile.gif

As I am new to this forum I thought i would introduce myself and say a little bit about me.

I am from Oxford
and im grade 7 Trinity
I am in the Air Cadets
Im the solo oboist in the the National Concert band of the ATC
I really want to be a RAF musician in 2 years time smile.gif

I have to admit i have never taken a ABRSM exam before as i was never told of this exam board when I first started playing the oboe (5 years ago) and I was automatically put in for the Trinity as the most common exam board Oxfordshire Music service use is Trinity.

Because RAF expect me to be ABRSM standard grade 8, I am studying hard to hopefully take my grade 8 ABRSM, in order to do that I am currently doing grade 5 theory and learning all the scales which is really hard because with Trinity you don't do them. In order to do this big change from Trinity to ABRSM I was wondering...if possible...if any of you could help me in completing my grade 5 theory if I don't understand it, it would mean alot to me if i could have some help outside the classroom.

Thank you smile.gif

Hi oboe4136, welcome to the forums smile.gif

The Air Cadets sounds exciting!!

I don't know if you've had chance to look around yet, but there's an Oboe thread in the Woodwind viva where lots of nice oboists gather to chat biggrin.gif

And if you've got any theory questions, there's a Theory forum too where you're likely to get plenty of helpful answers. Lots of us like chatting about theory smile.gif

Hope you enjoy it here and find it useful - just give a shout if you need help with anything, or finding your way around welcome.gif

Yes the Air Cadet is very exciting indeed! I love it so much!

Thank you about the information on the oboe section in the woodwind area, I have just found it smile.gif

The various Army bands do a great job education wise in terms of encouraging participation. We have a visit once a year, and they are always keen for our better pupils to join in. We've provided about 2 or 3 each time and have really enjoyed it. One is still considering the bands as a career option.

Hi oboe4136, welcome to the forum.

You are not far from me, then - but I am not a musician, I just record them. biggrin.gif
