Hello,

Have been looking through this piece and have a query to throw out there...

In bar 53 the right hand is playing 6ths. Now, at the moment I'm following the fingering that is suggested and am 'twisting' my wrist from right to left in order to get the fingers in shape.

I'm wondering if this is the correct way to do it as I seem to be feeling the area around my thumbs after playing it.

Any suggestions welcome, I don't want to cause injury!

Play them staccato - sounds nice and doesn't kill your hand.

Don't forget the fingering is only advisory. Experiment with alternative fingering which you can accomplish without having to over strain your fingers. Staccato is good, but also try just using your first and fifth fingers without switching at all. I managed this, slowly, just now. As for legato vs staccato, that all depends on how you feel about the rest of the piece and whether you think one is better overall. It is fairly fast, and quavers tend to have a staccato effect anyway. Which pedal are you thinking of using?

If you are doing intensive practising, don't forget to take breaks every so often, or just give one hand a rest and concentrate on the other for a while. And don't forget to just look at the music and think how you want it to sound.

Good luck.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

I do like those bars staccato and am aware that at a faster speed the difference between that at legato will be slight - I doubt my fingers could handle it legato at a faster pace anyway. Plus with that section staccato the following couple of bars contrast nicely with it with a legato feel. Am I allowed to add staccato marks that aren't on the music though ? Won't I get marked down for this ?

Up to now I haven't used any pedal at all in the piece...should I be ?
