Hi all,

I have my exam next month, does anyone know the kind of questions that are given on Fugues. I have been revising them and as my teacher is ill at the moment i can't ask for their help.

Many Thanks

I'm unfamiliar with the A-level exam.

But if the question is analytical, then most likely you will be asked to identify the following elements of a fugue:
- subject, real/tonal answer, countersubject(s) in the exposition
- episodes, middle entries
- augmentation, diminution, inversion of subject

If the question is compositional, then most likely you will be asked to compose a fugal exposition, or at the very least, supply an answer and a countersubject to a given subject.

These are typical tasks required in a theory exam.

Thanks for the reply
I think it will be tha analysing as i have to do this with the Debussy also. I have read up on real and tonal answers, but have got a little confused about the tonal answer. Is it where instead of going from Tonic to Dominant at the start it would go dom-tom? Or am i going completely wrong. Could anyone shed some light on it please?
