When I'm practising argeggios on the upper notes of the cello, particularly Bflat major, I find that i'm sliding into place, and not hitting it bang on with the first slide - there is a bit of a fumble.

are there any tips for practising getting it bang on?
thank you.

Slow practice with lots of repetition always pays off in this type of situation. Learning to know what the 'feel' and hand shape is like at a particular position on the fingerboard when the note is played in tune.

Only when you can hit the notes right every time do you increase the speed a little. Don't expect instant results, it can take weeks, or even months to find you are getting it right most of the time.

Even professional string players spend their lives striving for better intonation, particularly when learning new works. It's an endless journey.

Thanks ... actually, I think I have taken them too fast from the start. I'll take your advice and start from scratch. I'm doing grade 4 in a few days, but I have a lifetime of this ahead of me, so it will pay off at a later stage, if not for this exam.
best wishes.
