It is, isn't it! It's typical that the only two things that, so far, are happening this summer are right next to each other. wacko.gif Are you going to the prom?

I have no idea why the "End of term/school party/disco" suddenly turned into a "Prom". It'll be those damned "High-School" movies I reckon wink.gif

Or possibly, because a promenade is also a dance, similar to a box waltz wink.gif

I can't see loads of hormonal/self-conscious teenagers waltzing, to be quite honest tongue.gif Actually, the boys avoid dancing at all if possible from what I remember.

Swiftly moving back on-topic...

I was about to say it would be so much easier to stay with family near London overnight than go home and come back the next day. But, having checked train tickets, it's cheaper to go from cambridge to London and back than to go from the edge of London to the centre of London to Cambridge. wacko.gif I think that's decided it for me!
hello_cello
Its bizarre, we go in alot to see my uncle and to go to the theatre/opera, its £7 for me, and then atleast £5 for the tube!

Have you tried getting the fares different ways (splitting the journey)? Sometimes it's cheaper to buy two singles than a return, for example...

I'm almost certainly driving in, I doubt I can be bothered faffing about with late trains afterwards.

It's £12.60 for one-way Cambridge-London and £13.20 return so I think I'll be getting the return one. I can't remember how much extra it is for underground, but I'm pretty sure I didn't pay more than £15 last time I went into London. To go from where my Grandma lives to London to Cambridge would be £6ish to get into London plus whatever it costs for the tube and the £12.60 fare to get home again afterwards.

No, but I have the 16-25 railcard thing which gives a third off everything and the tube is included in the travelcard ticket you can get which, from what I remember, wasn't significantly more than £13.20 anyway.

Fair enough... Out of interest, how do you pick venues for these events? I was just thinking that this one is quite out of the way from you and Barry's perspectives, and you're the ones arranging it? smile.gif

It was more Barry's choice than mine. I think the reasoning behind it wsa that most of the people we thought would be interested live around about down there, give or take, so it didn't make sense to have it near Cambridge. It's quite a good place for me anyway as I have family living within about 10 miles which means that my parents will drive the bells down, which they probably wouldn't have wanted to do otherwise, which would have been a bit of a problem as there would be no way I could take the bells on a train (you need two people to lift the chest, never mind insurance etc).

Can't you persuade your parents to hang around visiting the aforementioned family members so they can give you a lift back as well? Saves some grief getting the train back biggrin.gif

Yeeeessss.... the train's for getting to the prom and back. It's just that I was thinking that it might be easier and cheaper to stay with family overnight (while my parents would take the bells home, I think), then go from there into town rather than go all the way back to Cambridge only to have to go all the way back into the London the next morning.

I'm happy to eat all manner of things, but Italian is usually a safer option than some other cuisines. smile.gif
smd
'fraid I am Coeliac and have decided I'll give the meal a miss, although Italian is OK as long as it's more than pizza and pasta which are off the menu for me. When I originally booked my husband was out for that day but now he'll be at home so he can cook me something nice!

I heard Harry Potter theme tune on the radio this afternoon (The full orchestrated version of course not a hand bells one) but the interesting point was that apparently it was written out by hand from the first draft and in pen - no computers and no rubbing out of penciled notes. If I think back to how many rubbings out I made in my G5 theory exam and that was just 8 bars!
andante_in_c
I'm trying to remember which meal I answered yes to, but think it was the other one. So yes, please, for both of us. smile.gif

Some Italian restaurants do cater for Coeliacs, it might be worth Barry asking them... I've come across a few that will let you take your own gluten-free pizza base in if you give them some notice beforehand. smile.gif
