Hello Jane and

to the forum.
The bow cannot be inside the violin because a bow is longer than the total length of a volin.

If you are talking about a short piece of wood then this is the soundpost.
You need to take the violin to a luthier (violin maker) to get it looked at.

If the soundpost has fallen then this will need to be put back in place by the luthier, and even if it is still in place it may need adjusting. It is likely that the bridge will also need to be adjusted. The luthier will be able to give you an opinion on the kind of strings which will suit the violin.
It may me less expensive to get a new violin than to have the old one set up properly (although if it is a good old violin then it might be worth setting it up). A luthier would be able to advise you on this.

hiya well i recently bought a violin which isnt in great condition and needs fixing up.
1 problem i didnt notice right away was that the bow is inside the violin! ahhh what a pain. what would be the best method of getting it out?
What you need to get is a nice, sharp saw.
Saw right across the 'vile din' (technical name for a naff violin in a beginner's hands!) horizontally until sawn all the way through. Remove bow. Throw in bin. Take up the electric keyboard.

I had thought the OP was a genuine question, but I'm not so sure now.
