what is a retiring collection, and where do i find one so i can gain my free entrance?

(as you might guess, i don't attend many recitals.)

Are you sure you're not pulling our legs? It means that, instead of buying a ticket before the concert, there will be a collection on the way out of the venue at the end of the recital.

i see - and no, i'm not pulling your leg, i promise. i think i'm just a bit young to see "retiring" and think "oh, they mean leaving!" (i did wonder if there would be a charity collection to support old people, but that seemed unlikely.)

I can assure you I'm quite a long way off retirement myself!
