Hello forum wave.gif

I'm in the very, very early stages of working out what to do, and where to go in 2010.

This thread is to discuss possible ideas for next year. yay.gif

There's already a couple of new ideas in the pipeline, including an event or two along the Sussex Coast, a visit to the West Country, and one or two other things.

If you have any ideas for new places to visit, or new musical ideas (like the handbells for this year), let me know, either personally or via this thread. smile.gif

Thanks everyone!

I would very much like to explore the idea of a Forums Early Music day next year. It could include recorders (of course!) and voices (of course!) biggrin.gif and any renaissance instruments people have. There is a wealth of material which works well for mixed ensembles of voices, recorders and a few strings, so I think it could be a really good opportunity for Forumites who haven't played a lot of early music to turn up and have a go.

What do people think?

I've had Cambridge as an idea for a little while, but really we'll need an idea of specific venues before pursuing the idea further h_c. smile.gif

I've had quite a few ideas so far from people, both events and places. Thank you all! smile.gif

h_c, how about arranging a bellringing afternoon in 2010? I expect Saturdays are difficult because of weddings and Sundays because of services, but with a little ingenuity?

Another possibility for 2010? smile.gif

Yep, we'll definitely do another playday at the start of 2010 : I've already earmarked 2/3 Saturdays as possibilities for this. There is the recital too, at the end of 2009.

There's always the possibility of another event of some description : the big tick is this is a venue with a pretty decent piano. There are also plans for a North East event for 2010, which will only be a short distance further north on the East Coast Main Line. smile.gif

I shall definitely bear York in mind for things in 2010. I like the city, and it has a very nice, cheap venue to hire, as well as plenty of forum members within day trip distance of York. smile.gif

Just seen this. If it happens, and, judging by the comments so far it may well do, it will have to be in a location accessible to a fair number of Forumite recorder players. I suspect it will have to be nearer London than I am to maximise the number of attendees. I'll be liaising with Barry and others to find a suitable venue. smile.gif

Both - 2010 is the sequel to 2001 (and in book terms, there's 2061 and 3001 as well. But these weren't made in to films, so don't have a soundtrack. Well, unless you imagine it while reading the book...)

I'd love to go to a York Players for Pleasure Concert like the Leeds one - or anything that can involve piano, sax, clarinet and beginner's violin. (If you know me and Music Stand, you'll realise why! - I'm sure you'll know why, Barry)

Does the Leeds concert in January need to go on the list?

Players for Pleasure events will in due course be located/dated by skyers : as soon as she confirms everything, she will I'm sure let us all know. smile.gif

It looks like we'll be doing another recital in York towards the end of 2010, like the one Miss Ross, mwl1, bohemian and I are doing this year, only involving a different set of grade 8 plus musicians. With a North East forum concert scheduled for next year, I'm not sure I'll be doing a full-blown concert in York in 2010.

And yes, I know why Chris biggrin.gif

Hi chris wave.gif

Barry and I are looking at a NE-based concert, which will also be easily accessible for people in the Yorkshire and Cumberland areas and Southern Scotland, and from other parts of the country for those who have the time/money to travel a bit further (there are good train links to/from London KX, Doncaster, Peterborogh, Derby, the Midlands, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, York, Edinburgh and Glasgow, with reasonable connections to/from Carlisle, Preston, Aberdeen and Inverness). We're looking at timing the event so that it will complement the Leeds-based concert series and the York playday/recitals (rather than competing with them for participants!), and so that those who want to do both Leeds and the NE event will have time to prepare music between the different evets). smile.gif

The Benllech Meet in March of 2010 will be a different one. It will be a day of singing; rounds, magrigals and other suitable things and then a masterclass in the afternoon. Then we will have a trip to the opera again if the dates work. Of course this will be followed by another supper at the Rattery.

PS. WNO will be performing Carmen with the Anglesey tenor, Gwyn Hughes Jones, who comes from the village next door to mine, on March 13th. We shall see how this fits in to the Forum calendar.

Sounds rather good! biggrin.gif

13th March sounds good too : I enjoyed my last trip to the opera! Shall I sing in the back of the Land Rover again? laugh.gif

I've had a look throught the list I've made over the last few days. I'm not sure a tower bellringing day will work, sadly. I had a look at the possibility of an African drumming day, but the costs look like they'd be too prohibitive, so I've put that on the back burner too.

The 'other York event' is likely to be a recital again, and I've already sounded out two forum members to perform in this in 2010, and will be finding a couple more. If you're intrerested, drop me a PM.

To allow other forum people space in the calendar for their things, I'm unlikely to do a Greenwich playday in 2010 either. That I feel would be sheer indulgence on my part! laugh.gif I may well organise a recital or two in the London area though, a la bohemian's this year. smile.gif

Everything else is still very much in my mind, but I can't guarantee everything will fit into 2010. smile.gif

Sorry Chris, but I'm not planning a York Players for Pleasure concert - I'm happy both with the venue in Leeds and with the accessibility by train and motorway, and seeing as York is only about 20 miles from Leeds, I'm inclined to stick with Leeds for the Yorkshire concerts.

QUOTE(Chris H @ Jun 15 2009, 11:30 PM) *

Does the Leeds concert in January need to go on the list?

The winter Players for Pleasure concert will be on Saturday 2nd January at the usual venue, the Yorkshire College of Music & Drama in Headingley.

The spring/summer concert will be held as usual on the Saturday after the Spring Bank Holiday when the college is closed. So in 2010, it will be on Saturday 5th June.

I'm planning various other Players for Pleasure events and I'll confirm soon party1.gif

The spring/summer concert will be held as usual on the Saturday after the Spring Bank Holiday when the college is closed. So in 2010, it will be on Saturday 2nd June.

2nd June is a Wednesday skyers!

Your 'usual' Saturday is 29th May. smile.gif

Bank Holiday is on 31st May next year, so the concert will be on Saturday 5th June (I'd copied and pasted the date from January but forgot to alter the day, sorry for the confusion - I've edited my previous post)
