I was wondering what people thought of all the musicals that have beenmade into films.
Personally I like them on the whole. biggrin.gif And i was wondering if anyone could recommend any I might not have seen. happy.gif

It's just that I've only just found out that universal bought the rights to make Wicked into a film a while back, and it's one of my favourite musicals (along with all the obvious ones like Les Mis and Phantom etc.)

There are always rumours they're going to do Wicked, but they never have. sad.gif I've heard it every week since I got into the show a few years ago!

I mostly like film-musicals, but in a couple it feels like the pick the quirkiest, most fun songs and get rid of them! Like Marry The Man Today in Guys and Dolls. smile.gif

I do own a ridiculous number of them though. tongue.gif

I dont really like musicals as films, i think part of them is the atmosphere of the theatre, thats just my view, especially when in the middle of the stalls for phantom of the opera.

I can see why you'd say that, for phantom in particular, but I think it is possible for some, if not all the magic, to be transferred to the screen.
