Will have to bring forward the long-contemplated purchase of a new case for Viohazard's guitar so that it can be safely shipped for repairs - current ancient case is not only not strong enough, but handles and hinges are giving way.

Which brands or models are reliable (and preferably not so heavy that carrying the case for ten minutes leaves you unable to play!)?

Hi all ears,

my recommendation (above all others) is the Hiscox series of cases. They come in a variety of sizes (as do classical guitars e.g. Hauser, Torres, Ramirez monster, etc...) so make sure that you get one the right size so that it doesn't rattle. They're tough and very light. The luthier that made my baby recommends them too.

Check out their website at http://www.hiscoxcases.com/ and see if any of them suit your needs (I use the Pro II version).

Hope this helps.

Matt.

I see that Hiscox are available in Japan too, so I will take the guitar to a shop and check that it fits. Thanks for the recommendation.

Son's 3/4 size guitar came in a Japanese case, and while the case was perfectly solid, the handle and hinges weren't very sturdy - not such a problem for shipping, but fatal when carrying an instrument.
