I play a selmar clarinet but i don't know if it is a student model or not.
Would you recomend I buy a more advanced model before going to uni next year to do music?

What sort of Selmer is it, do you know, and is it plastic or wooden?

The slightly confusing thing about Selmer is that there are two Selmers. One is a French company, which does middle/top range clarinets made of wood, the other is American, and they make primarily plastic clarinets.

Is it shiny, or dull in finish? If it's shiny, it's definitely plastic. smile.gif

Isn't it partly a matter of 'does it do what you want'?
One way of deciding might be to go and try out several and see if any of them make a significant difference to your sound.

well its a great clarinet. its so much better than the schools one i used for 5 years. i plays so well but my teacher said when i first got it i might need to get a new one before going to uni. but i thought that as long as it plays ok then it wouldn't matter. i feel confident with it and i thought i should stick to it rather than get a new one i would like

It does sound like you're confident with that clari, so it isn't going to do any harm sticking with it for now, I'd have thought. smile.gif

Does your clarinet have anything inscribed under the Selmer logo? I have a Selmer 10S Bb and Selmer 10SII and I love them (although would like to upgrade when I'm rich tongue.gif)
