It's certainly a possibility for Musical Maniac and me. I'm not sure if I will be sufficiently confident about my flute playing by then.. MM could play clari, or cello if you twist her arm...?

As soon as I've worked out what we're playing, and what extra little groups we could potentially have, I'll post here.

In the meantime, I'll let you all know that applications will open during July.

I've just sent a draft timetable to flute diva, for her approval. It includes time for smaller groups, as well as whole group sessions.

Yesterday, I was in Milverton/Taunton with Flute diva, looking at the venue, and I was very impressed! Very nice acoustic, a few places for small groups to work, a more than reasonable piano (making other kinds of events a distinct possibility for 2010), other facilities are very good, and a nice cosy looking pub for socialising afterwards!

For those of you who are coming by train, we'll arrange lifts from Taunton station (it's day trippable from the London area, by the 09:06 First Great Western service from Paddington, and from Birmingham/Cheltenham/Bristol by Cross Country Trains).

There's a small possibility I might be able to make it to this one. But with the chaos of impending relocation I can't really be sure. What's the latest you can accept applications?

I think you might like this Tamsin : the set up of the day allows me to take applications pretty much up to the last second. The playday is 3rd Oct, *thinks* if you let me know by 27th September-ish (the Sunday before), then that'll be fine, and you can pay on the day. Contact me by PM, email or text, with instrument and approximate standard.

All being well, there should be a carload of 5 (including Blackbird) from Cardiff - 3 violins, 1 viola and 1 clarinet! Still potentially one seat left in the car.....

Seriously though some of us were bemoaning the lack of suitable amateur orchestras in our area and the mention of a Taunton Playday has gone down a treat!

There are a few others I can think of off the top of my head but I don't have contact details - hopefully I might be able to generate a second wave of support come September.

My first post on the forum, i ve been a member for a little while, but never posted till now.

The Taunton play day looks interesting, would there be any chance of joining in?

I'm at Bristol, so not too far away. I play the flute and am about grade 3 level. An adult leaner too, only been playing for about 18 months, and absolutely love it.

If its possible that would be brilliant.

It's been a little while since I posted here (mind full of summer holidays, handbells, Proms and Chester! ), apologies...

I'm going to collect the next lot of forms next Monday (7th) : still plenty of space for more applicants (it's a big hall )

On browsing through my diary today I was dismayed to realise that Musical Maniac and I will not be able to make this because of a work commitment of another family member. And there was I thinking that it was MM's busy schedule that would prevent us from getting there... I will be sorry to miss this everyone and hope you all have a great day.

Still bearing this in mind. Looks like I ought to be able to come (though my flute playing sounds ***** awful at the moment... maybe demote me to a G4/5 Barry... or avoid any parts in the third octave!). Are lifts from Taunton station/Bristol even still a possibility? (I have to admit, I'd be a little apprehensive about jumping in a car on my own with a complete stranger though.)
