This struck me as a strange combination of works to program together, excepting the 'heroic' aspect of both.
I like them both and am serious considering going.
I just wondered if anyone had anything to say about the Haydn/R. Strauss combination. I could understand it more if the Strauss were a concerto or chamber work.

Nelson Mass is sometimes known as 'The Mass for Times of Hardship', so I suppose it is kind of timely right now, as we are in a recession/credit crunch. Plus of course it's the bicentennial of Haydn's death (1809).
As for combining it in a programme with Ein Heldenleben, that strikes me as unusual to say the least. We performed the Nelson Mass with Karl Jenkins' Armed Man earlier this year, the connection being war/conflict. But the Haydn/Strauss link leaves me stumped. Could be an interesting concert...
