Full Version: Elementary (adult) Oboist Needs Teacher In Dorset
Forums > Viva Network > Viva Woodwind

I run an adult learners' orchestra and I've just heard that an oboist who only joined it this term will be moving next week to the Bridport/Dorchester area of Dorset. She's still at quite an elementary stage on the oboe and very much wants to find a teacher quickly, especially as she will have more time to practise once she has moved. She has really enjoyed her brief introduction to orchestral playing, so she's also hoping that there may be an appropriate orchestra (or perhaps band) that she could join.

If you can help her please let me know - I have an email link from my profile page. She's expecting to be out of email contact for a while but I'll be able to get in touch by phone. I've already suggested checking the excellent Amateur Orchestras' Web site. Even if the orchestras listed aren't appropriate for her they may be able to help with local contacts.

Try Gillian Tybjerg... she'll be the only Tybjerg in the phone book, and teaches for DMS. She got me to uni, and through my grade 8. Lovely lady.

Dr Vallis-Davies is an absolutely top class player and professor...I just want to say this to anyone interested in learning with her. She's extremely friendly with a huge amount of expertise in all aspects of oboe playing and also fascinating peak performance techniques. I benefited from her insightful approach all the way from my Grade 7 through to professional work. Do give her a call - you'll find that despite her intenational reputation she's very approachable, and will bend over backwards to help you! Just Google her name and you'll find all there is to know I'm sure. Good luck. from Barbara smile.gif

omg! In the south west youth orchestra she did half the the woodwind sectionals. the clarinet/flute parts were much more difficult than the oboe part so most of it was clarinets/flutes but I thought it was good.
