The pedal solo (marked 'Cromorne') starting in bar 3 is, presumably, at 8' pitch. Five bars later there is an 8va marking. Should I use Choir to Pedal at 4' for that part of the tune please? (Returning to 8' five bars later.)

Every performance I have heard leaves the whole thing at 8' pitch throughout.

Any thoughts or guidance would be very welcome as I may put this beautiful number down for LRSM.

My edition (Combre, which I think is now UMP) has Hammond organ registration in square brackets, the same as the 8va passage, so I assume it was to be played an octave lower on a Hammond organ which had only a two octave pedalboard.

This piece is actually on the FRSM syllabus.

Thank you very much for this explanation. I shall ignore the 8ve marking in my performance, as everyone else does.

Although it is down for FRSM candidates are permitted to play a portion of the programme outside the LRSM list. It is a very calm piece and will thus make a good start to the programme. (I get very nervous in examinations.)
